The Unicorn 2018 UK Open Prediction Game-Homepage

As last year, your task is once again to pick a squad of players from pre-determined groups and answer a bunch of bonus questions. The groups and template will be in the Prediction Thread, which will be separate and posted shortly, this will be the only prediction you will need to make for the duration of the event.

Prizes

The winner and the runner-up in the overall standings, as well as the poster of a randomly chosen entry will each win a set of darts of their choosing from the Unicorn catalogue (Click Here) :DDDD: :DDDD:

In addition, the entrant that scores best on the bonus questions only will win a Unicorn Eclipse Pro dartboard - the true choice of the professional :DDDD: :DDDD:

Player Selection

In the Prediction thread, there will be a link to the attachment with the groups and selection criteria in the OP.
You will select a required number of players, from groups decided by me.
You will be able to select a total of 31 players.

Scoring

Players losing a match - 1 point per leg won
Players winning a match - 1 point per leg won, plus the leg difference of the match converted to points

Example: In a 6-5 match the winner will score 6+1 = 7 points and the loser 5 points, in a 6-3 match the winner will score 9 points and the loser 3, etc.

Additionally, each nine-dart finish will add 20 points to the player's tally.

All matches will count.

Bonus Questions

In addition to your group selections, please answer the following 10 bonus questions (maximum 200 points available):

1) How many of the 64 Round 1 and Round 2 matches on Friday afternoon will finish 6-5?
(20 points for correct answer, 10 points if one out, 5 points if two out)

2) How many of the Riley's qualifiers will make it in to the last 64?
(20 points for correct answer, 10 points if one out, 5 points if two out)

3) How many of the 32 Friday afternoon survivors will also be victorious in the Friday evening session?
(20 points for correct answer, 10 points if one out, 5 points if two out)

4) How many of the 24 matches on Saturday will go the full distance?
(20 points for correct answer, 10 points if one out)

5) What will be the highest average scored by any player in a Sunday match?
(20 points if within one point, 10 points if within two points)

6) What will be the lowest average scored by any player in a Sunday match?
(20 points if within one point, 10 points if within two points)

7) How many of this years Premier League players will make it to the quarter finals?
(20 points for correct answer only)

8) How far will Michael van Gerwen progress (Last 64/Last 32/Last 16/QF/SF/Runner-up/Winner)
(20 points for correct answer only)

9) How far will Rob Cross progress (Last 64/Last 32/Last 16/QF/SF/Runner-up/Winner)
(20 points for correct answer only)

10) Who will finish runner up?
(20 points for correct answer only)

Plus, in case it is required:

Tie Breaker How many 180s will be hit in the semi-finals and final?

In addition, your entry needs to include a set of darts of your choosing from the Unicorn catalogue - (Click Here). Any player making an entry that does not include a valid product code will be INELIGIBLE for any prizes, including the Eclipse Pro.
If any of the top entries win a set of darts and none were specified in the appropriate prediction, the darts will revert to next in the overall standings at the end.

Good luck!

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES - Friday, 2 March, noon GMT

Smallprint

i) Should it be necessary to break a tie to decide the overall winner and/or the users receiving the prizes (the sets of darts as well as the Eclipse Pro), the tiebreaker guesses will be used, with the nearest guess prevailing.
If still tied, only the points scored through the 24 selected players will be compared, with the higher score prevailing.
If STILL tied, only the points scored through the 6 players selected in the Rileys Qualifiers group will be compared, with the higher score prevailing.
In the unlikely case of a tie through all three tie-breakers, the earlier entry wins.

ii) The sets of darts will be awarded first (including the one awarded by random draw); players having won one cannot also win the Eclipse Pro and their scores will be disregarded for determining the winner of the dartboard.

iii) Walkover matches will be scored as a 6-0 (or equivalent in later rounds) for the winning and losing players. Byes and no shows will not count for any player points, the player progressing to the next round will score zero.

iv) An effort will be made to notify users of malformed entries; for entries not corrected by the user by the deadline, an attempt will be made to correct them as follows:
- Groups with too many players will have names removed, starting with the last name listed.
- Groups with too few players will be left short-handed.
- Players that are not part of the group for which they are selected will be removed.
- Bonus questions with invalid answers will be considered not answered.
- Entries without a tie-breaker guess will be deemed to have forfeited their chance to win through the first tie-breaker stage.

v) No entries made after the published deadline will be accepted. No exceptions!

The decisions of myself and the site moderators are final. I myself am not eligible for any prize.

Any entry made by duplicate accounts and known trouble-makers will be disregarded.

Random Draw

Sparky has asked me to provide the random draw spreadsheet.

Attached to this post will be a spreadsheet. It contains the numbers 1 through 200 in a random order listed top to bottom.

The numbers in the sheet relate to the post numbers in the Prediction thread.

To decide the random winner we shall start at the top and the first valid post number will win the random prize.

Password for the sheet will be published at the end of the weekend.

I've noticed one person has not picked the allotted amount of qualifiers already. You will not be chased by me if these are not corrected by the time the thread is locked.

An interesting comp and a great weekend ahead.
I wonder how many matches I will be able to watch as its our 26th anniversary and off for a weekend in the mountains! I'm sure she won't mind if I catch a few on my phone as long as I keep the volume down...

Maybe it would help people if there was a list of 100% confirmed absentees.

THE 2018 Coral UK Open will begin on Friday afternoon, although the effects of Storm Emma have meant that seven players have withdrawn from the tournament.

The £350,000 tournament is being held at the Butlin's Minehead Resort in Somerset from March 2-4, where 128 players were due to be competing across the weekend in the multi-board format.

The Coral UK Open is set to proceed from Friday lunchtime, with the first two rounds to be played in the afternoon session ahead of the third round - featuring the top 32 qualifiers - in the evening session.

As of Thursday evening, the following seven players have informed the PDC that they are unable to travel to Minehead this weekend:
Rene Berndt
Andrew Davidson
John Goldie
Maik Langendorf
Mick McGowan
William O'Connor
Scott Robertson

Their intended opponents in the first or second round will receive a Bye.

Two-time UK Open champion Michael van Gerwen remains Coral's pre-tournament 8/11 favourite as the world number one bids to win the title for a third time in four years.

World Champion Rob Cross and former UK Open finalist Gary Anderson are the 7/1 joint-second favourites, with reigning champion Peter Wright 9/1 to retain his title.

Coral's John Hill said: "As always, Michael van Gerwen is a red-hot favourite to win the UK Open for the third time in his career.

"However, the "FA Cup" style of this tournament has thrown up some huge upsets in the past and there will no doubt be a few more this year."

Two-time UK Open champion Raymond van Barneveld is 22/1 to complete his own hat-trick of victories, while current Premier League leader Michael Smith is 25/1 and Australian debutant Corey Cadby is a 28/1 shot alongside reigning World Grand Prix champion Daryl Gurney.

For the latest Coral odds, visit www.coral.co.uk.

The Coral UK Open will be broadcast live on ITV4 and worldwide through the PDC's series of international broadcast partners.

So here we are, up to date apart from the last 8 bonus questions.
For those of you new to the forum in the last year, from the scale of the spreadsheet you can appreciate the work involved in calculating this.
