PDC China Tour 2018

DARTS players in China will receive greater opportunities in 2018 following the introduction of a new PDC China circuit as the PDC's expansion continues.

The sport's growth in the Far East has been boosted in recent years, with World Series of Darts events in Shanghai, Japan and Singapore accompanied by a domestic circuit in China and this year's new PDC Asian Tour.

Following a new partnership between the PDC and Madison Communications, the PDC China circuit will feature qualifying events for four PDC televised events alongside three domestic tournaments and an end-of-season Grand Final.

The action will begin with a Betway World Cup of Darts Qualifier on May 7 in Shanghai, where two players will win the right to represent their country in Frankfurt.

The PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship Qualifier will then take place on July 11 in Shanghai ahead of the qualifiers for the Shanghai Darts Masters, which will be held on July 13-14.

The Shanghai Darts Masters will be the third stop on the PDC's World Series of Darts circuit this year, as eight top PDC stars take on eight of the region's leading players.

Three PDC China events will then be held in August, September and October ahead of December's Grand Final, while there will also be a William Hill World Darts Championship Qualifier in November.

"Darts in China is beginning to gain a foothold following the developments in recent years, and this partnership is another positive step for the sport," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.
"Madison Communications have been our partner in the successful staging of the Shanghai Darts Masters for the past two years, and they are as keen as us to see the sport's continued growth.

"The Shanghai Darts Masters will be the region's flagship tournament this year, but with places in the World Cup, World Championship and World Youth Championship again on offer there is great scope for Chinese players to increase their competitive experience alongside darts' biggest names."

Why? Simple: leadership that has vision and drive.

love how they play the long term game. Make the wc field larger by having international qualifiers. Some mocked the standard and thought event now too long and too big. But the pdc knew that they needed to have incentives in place for the global market.

The PDC should be praised for having a good crack at the Asian market. Hopefully we’ll get some decent Asian players over the next few years and that can only take the game to new levels yet again.

I understand the need of a national tour but surely this move somewhat contradicts the new Asian tour and what that is trying to achieve? Why does the Chinese team have to come from a Chinese tour and not the Asian tour?

This does show where the Worlds expansion will start to come from.

China is a massive country with about a 1/4 of the World population and is to all intents and purposes an absolute massive captive closed market. Matchroom also has a lot of experience and success from the Chinese market with snooker so to them it's probably a no brainer of a decision.

If you add in that the 'same part of the world' also has an Australian tour . The Asian Tour fits snugly inbetween these 2 which I presume is the PDC greater plan to have mini tours across the whole globe.

PDJ had never been a tour and not sure why not. Think it should have Delores and had more weekends. The qualifiers for the worlds always seemed to be well attended.

Would be good to see something happen though as a platform for moving onto the Asian tour.

2018 has seen the PDC Asian Tour introduced to the calendar, with events already having been held in Seoul and Macao during March and April.

Forthcoming weekends, which each feature two tournaments, will be held in Kobe, Kuala Lumpur and Taipei, which has moved forward a fortnight to be held on September 8-9.

They will be followed by the year's sixth weekend on October 13-14, with the Crown Plaza Manila Galleria Ballroom to host the final two events on the 2018 schedule.

Philippines star Lourence Ilagan won both events held in Macao last month, with Hong Kong's Royden Lam and Japan's Seigo Asada the winners of the opening two tournaments in Seoul.
