There should be a small membership fee for the BDO.... will raise some much needed income
The proposals itself are vague but i dont think there must to moan about

Membership is a no brainer. Get everything online, 5 quid a year. Sorted.
I paid 30 Euros this year to join up to play the local league.

People in possession of the facts about what the WDT costs and the BDO frittering money on it might not be too keen to subscribe.....oche balboa wrote:There should be a small membership fee for the BDO.... will raise some much needed income

Don't be foolish, Glen didn't start at the top, most sports in the UK have some sort of annual membership fee. The same people don't mind forking out £26.00 for one open when they know that Glen and other talented players will be in the mix. Players with the slightest jot of confidence and aspirations would be biting at the bit to play a great player like Glen, after all isn't that the PDC mantra of improvement.....to play better players?nikkiboy wrote:And in one sentence identifying why the BDO cannot cater for the grass roots and professional sides of the game.Astonvilla wrote:Indeed raise a lot from the ordinary dart players to end up in the pockets of Durrant.

It cost £80-£100 to play a season at the cricket club. Darts players moan about a few quid yet will chuck £400 at q school

Yeah but none of your £100 is going towards paying for central contracts. Paying subs for any local sports league is normal but BDO seem to want to fund their top tournaments of the backs of the local leagues.oche balboa wrote:It cost £80-£100 to play a season at the cricket club. The £100 I pay for my cricket club goes towards the cricket club. The £5 (assuming it’s this) that I would pay to play in the BDO should go towards the bdo

The BDO do absolutely nothing for the majority of darts players, why would the majority pay a membership fee that would only help to line the pockets of board members and the elite players.
Comparing it to cricket is idiotic, since your fee there goes to the hiring the pitch which is a necessity to actually play cricket.

Cricket fees nowadays go towards paying players to play in the cricket clubs 1st XiTheSandman wrote:The BDO do absolutely nothing for the majority of darts players, why would the majority pay a membership fee that would only help to line the pockets of board members and the elite players.

Who are members of the same club.
Would you expect members of Dulwich Hamlet to pay a fee to supplement the winnings of Manchester United?

People are already kicking off about fees in our superleague so I cant see everyone wanting to pay BDO fees as well as superleague fees.
Re: So what do you think of the new proposals?
Also what is stopping a Superleague "breaking away" and running the league away from any BDO affiliation? Yes they wont be able to send a team to the Champions Cup or whatever it is called, but hardly a massive thing to lose in return for not having all its players pay a second fee.

If they do I suppose they wouldn't be able for county which makes superleague just a league I guess.
Re: So what do you think of the new proposals?
I suppose it depends is they have aspirations to play county or not.Ginge wrote:Also what is stopping a Superleague "breaking away" and running the league away from any BDO affiliation? One player was paid £30k for the season in a league not too far from me.

Re: So what do you think of the new proposals?
How many super league players are there? What happens when a team is stretched for numbers and try and call on someone for an evening who isn't a member? Are they going to force none uk players to pay a membership when they lay in IK events?
How much do they think they will raise from the membership? Multiply the answer to the first by £5 or £10 take away a reduction for the counties, and how much would that leave?? Enough to cover the WDT?
What venue in the UK will want to take on the Masters or WDT for three years after the event the other week without some serious cash upfront?

Re: So what do you think of the new proposals?
But club members aren’t paying for that, it’s usually rich idiots that want to win a pointless trophy.Dannyboy wrote:And this is a huge bug bear of mine.oche balboa wrote:Cricket fees nowadays go towards paying players to play in the cricket clubs 1st XiTheSandman wrote:The BDO do absolutely nothing for the majority of darts players, why would the majority pay a membership fee that would only help to line the pockets of board members and the elite players.

We have a team in our ecb league that pays their entire first team, they have won the league something like 8 times in the last 10 years. What do they get from it, fek all
There isn’t a comparison here. People paying memberships for cricket teams or football teams are paying to get something back from their club. This is the bdo still wanting to pointlessly carry on doing “majors” but getting the super league players to cover the costs.
