Are Forums on their last legs?

Post by ChrisW »

Was looking around:
TDF, First page of darts discussions goes back 2 months
df, First page of darts discussions goes back one month.
OK here is a bit of the exception. Just 6 days.
Is it a seasonal thing or just continuing the general decline?

Well according to some on fb (real fanatics) forums are finished.

For me it's hard to say. I basically only read and post on here (re forums) and also fb pages (real & original fanatics and a pdc site).

Site is not as busy as it was but it is still my 1st port of call.

Have to say whilst I can't comment on the other forums as this is the only one I am a member of, think here has been pretty busy over the past months.

Some very good debate over that time, and the vast majority of our posters contribute in an objective and non insulting fashion. All is well at TSOD as far as I can see.

Elsewhere in a parallel universe, ssjsa posts his 'nothing bad has ever happened' comment.

TDF is very quiet, barely look on there really, let alone post.
Don't see too many issues here.

the darts forums need to merge into one to survive I think. Or more specifically df and TSOD. As long as you have 2 areas, one for Darts chat with the TSOD filters/guidelines and an area for other uncensored chat then they could co exist quite nicely with most people posting in both areas or sticking to one if they prefer.
Would work well I think an would even attract more posters as the only place to go for decent darts debate - especially seeing as FB only has a BDO Players Birthday page and an EDO appreciation page.

Won't happen becasuse keeping the shite that some post off the darts threads would be impossible to police.
Forums in general are a lot quieter, a lot of the chat taken over by Twitter and Facebook but when I used to read both Fanatics it was all sycophantic nonsense and anyone who dared criticise was immediately banned. When organisations do wrong they need to be criticised because if you surround yourself with people who solely agree then you get a false sense of achievement and security. Criticism is good as long as it does not become abuse. The irony is that from the screenshot I have seen here and people have sent me it is Fanatics that is using swear words and abuse directed at all the members here and one can only assume that it is because forums allow criticism and they do not.
I think forums still have a place see above but they will never get to where they were ten years ago.
All those who accuse forums of BDO bashing should remember that without forums asking questions the BDO would have been bankrupted during the de-luxe fiasco because without forums they would have signed up to mountains of debt.

Just had a quick look at the Darts chat Index pages of the forums you have cited above.

TDF- 8 threads with posts in last 7 days.
df- 4 threads with posts in the last 7 days.
TSOD- 27 threads with posts in the last 7 days.

Chris normally starts a thread like this when he wants Gaz to bite to him. Any luck yet, mate?

Shouldn't be too difficult to set up if there is a demand.

These threads pop up every year around this time. Of course Twitter and Facebook will take some traffic away from forums, but they'll have their place for the foreseeable future I'd reckon.
