What led to the Winmau binning the BDO off?
Re: What led to the Winmau binning the BDO off?
I hope everyone at the Emirates today doesn't slag off the players on the pitch given not many of them play professional football.

Skewball would have said best of 3 would have been excellent if it was the PDC who done it
TSOD World Grand Prix Prediction winner 2017.

They dumped the format because it is pathetic and dire.

An exciting and entertaining format, get for viewing. In answer to the OP I would say all the negativity published on forums such as this......
"What a Fecking Catastrophe!!"

My favourite format is the best of 5 set play....my least favourite format is best of 3 set play...the PDC used to play floor finals at best of 3 set play...it was horrible then and it's still horrible now.....I would like to see a bit more best of 5 set play though as you are never really out of the game but still takes a good effort to actually win a set...
Re: What led to the Winmau binning the BDO off?
I would imagine Winmau possibly realised that the hours of TV that their sponsored players was by far greater in the PDC than the BDO could offer and that i t was cheaper to give £5 each to anyone who was watching the last Masters on TV than actually sponsor any more BDO fiascos.

The floor tournaments (Pro Tour, if you will) used to be the best of five sets with 3 legs to a set.trotter wrote:the PDC used to play floor finals at best of 3 set play...it was horrible then and it's still horrible now.....

Like or hate Des, but the counties totally fucked him!
How is he supposed to get winmau/bob potter/channel 4/bt sport/ ect, back to the any negotiating table when he is gonna turn up with the former chairperson of the BDO Sue Williams as financial director.
As chairperson she alienated so many sponsors and tv channels that the BDO might be totally fucked while sue is a director.
To be fair, I just Nick Leeson is going into big brother! Maybe he could give the BDO some financial advice.

Winmau may have been binning them anyway, but it's fun to blame the current Bo Des Organisation board.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the best of 3 legs a set format for a once a season event - same with the double-in format!
The World Masters has been this way going back to the beginning (well certainly the early 80’s) and it’s great to watch - players have to be on their guard as you can win 2-3 sets in a row just as you can lose them! It’s better than the usual matchplay format - if a player is 1 leg away from a win with still 6 legs to play the game is as good as over. In set play if a player requires 1 set but is 6 ahead the game is still very much on, more so in best of 5 legs per set format as the player attempting to make a comeback can still lose 1 leg in 3 (or 2 in 5) and still win a set!
