THE William Hill World Darts Championship will be broadcast in full on the dedicated Sky Sports Darts channel, which will be on air from December 13 to January 1.

Darts' biggest-ever tournament will see 16 days of coverage, featuring all 96 players, with more sessions than ever before, including 12 bumper days of afternoon and evening action.

Sky Sports Darts will be the place to keep track of the tournament from Thursday, December 13 when coverage gets underway with a preview show at 6.30pm and the first session starting at 7pm.

As well as the live coverage, there'll be more darts programming than ever before, with Darts Gold returning to showcase some of the greatest matches through the years.

The channel will also take you up close with the big names, including sit downs with Rob Cross and Michael van Gerwen to get the stories on their careers.

Sky Sports first broadcast the PDC World Championship in 1993-1994, and have led the way in their coverage of the sport for almost 25 years since.

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN is the 11/8 favourite with sponsors William Hill to win the William Hill World Darts Championship title.

Following the draw for darts' biggest-ever event, William Hill have confirmed their odds for the 96 players competing from December 13-January 1 for £2.5 million in prize money and the Sid Waddell Trophy, live on Sky Sports.

Van Gerwen is favourite to win a third title, while back-to-back champion Gary Anderson is a 3/1 second favourite.

World number three Peter Wright is 11/1 to win a first world crown, Premier League finalist Michael Smith is 14/1 and Rob Cross is a 20/1 shot to become a back-to-back champion.

Mensur Suljovic is 25/1, televised title winners Daryl Gurney, Gerwyn Price and James Wade are 33/1 and former champions Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld are both priced at 66/1 to clinch the title on New Year's Day.

William Hill's wide range of odds for the tournament includes markets on the nationality of the eventual champion, odds on the number of nine-dart finishes and 170 checkouts which may be achieved, as well as match odds.

I hope Michael Smith will have a good run at the world championship. I also think the draw looks really good for Peter Wright.

Yes I did. However it was how Cross, Wright and Suljovic played last week that convinced me that Michael would come through the bottom half of the draw.

What are you struggling with? Apart from De Zwaan (winner of that first game will have to play twice in that session) its no different to Lakeside where the "prelim" player plays his next match in a later session.

ROB CROSS and Lisa Ashton will headline the opening night of the 2018/2019 William Hill World Darts Championship, with the schedule for darts' biggest event now confirmed.

The £2.5 million event's first of 16 days of action on Thursday December 13 at London's Alexandra Palace will see reigning World Champion Cross open his title defence.

The Hastings ace will take on the winner of the tournament's opening fixture, between World Matchplay semi-finalist Jeffrey de Zwaan and Indian Qualifier Nitin Kumar, as he aims to repeat last year's incredible success.

Reigning Lakeside Women's Champion Ashton will make her Alexandra Palace debut against Dutchman Jan Dekker in another high-profile fixture on the opening night.

Ashton joined Anastasia Dobromyslova in qualifying for the event, with the Russian ace set to take on Ryan Joyce in her opening tie on Monday December 17.

Two-time World Champion Gary Anderson headlines the second day of action as he meets Paul Nicholson or Kevin Burness, with 2018 semi-finalist Jamie Lewis also in action as he plays Martin Schindler or Cody Harris.

World number one Michael van Gerwen enters the event on Saturday December 15 to play either Alan Tabern or Raymond Smith, with former World Youth Champions Max Hopp and Keegan Brown taking to the stage across the double session.

Former World Championship finalist Peter Wright, Dave Chisnall and the legendary Paul Lim are amongst the stars in action on Sunday December 16.

Five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld begins his penultimate Ally Pally challenge - ahead of his retirement at the end of next year - on Monday December 17 against either Matthew Edgar or Darius Labanauskas.

New Players Championship Finals winner Daryl Gurney takes to the stage alongside World Youth Champion Dimitri Van den Bergh and former UK Open and World Grand Prix champion Robert Thornton on Tuesday December 18.

European Championship and World Series of Darts Finals winner James Wade is joined by Shanghai Darts Masters champion Michael Smith and 2010 World Championship finalist Simon Whitlock on Wednesday December 19.

Two-time World Champion Adrian Lewis opens his bid for a third Ally Pally title on Thursday December 20, with former Lakeside Champions Steve Beaton and Stephen Bunting and former Champions League winner Mensur Suljovic also in action.

The second round concludes on Friday December 21, with new Grand Slam of Darts champion Gerwyn Price and 2018 European Tour event winners Ian White and Jonny Clayton taking to the stage.

The third round is split either side of the Christmas break, with the fourth round being played on December 27-28 ahead of the quarter-finals across two sessions on December 29.

The semi-finals on Sunday December 30 will be followed on Tuesday January 1 by the final as sport's first World Champion of 2019 hoists the Sid Waddell Trophy.

The only odd thing is how much free time some of the players have before their first game. Klassen, White, Price and Clayton dont play their first match until the tournament is 8 days in.

Cant really be avoided but there are some massive gaps for players in the first 2 weeks. Cross plays in the first session the 13th then if he gets through his next game is Sunday 23rd, Whereas Price has the potential to play the 21st, 23rd, 28th, 29th, 30th, 1st

GARY ANDERSON believes his love of fishing can aid his bid to reel in a third world title at the William Hill World Darts Championship.

Anderson is hoping to become just the second player in PDC history to claim a hat-trick of world crowns when he stars in darts' biggest-ever event at Alexandra Palace from December 13-January 1, live on Sky Sports.

The back-to-back world champion has enjoyed an incredible 2018, lifting four televised titles, including the World Matchplay and UK Open for the first time, and Anderson has revealed the secret to his success.

"Away from the darts I love my fishing, it relaxes me and puts me in a good frame of mind," said Anderson, who will face Paul Nicholson or Kevin Burness in his opening match.

"I'm going to enjoy the time off between now and the worlds, spending time with my wife and kids and also getting a bit of fishing in!

"I still enjoy playing darts but being away all the time takes a lot out of me and I always look forward to being at home, any opportunity I get I'm out fishing.

"I've not done too bad so far this year so what I'm doing seems to be working for me."

Anderson last tasted success on the Alexandra Palace Stage at the 2016 event, which also saw him land a nine-dart finish, before losing out to Michael van Gerwen in the 2017 final.

The Scot suffered a quarter-final exit to Phil Taylor in the last ever meeting between the pair at last year's tournament, but is feeling confident of reaching a fourth world final in five years.

"It's going okay so far this year, the big one is coming up now and I'm really looking forward to it," Anderson added.

"It would be an amazing feeling to win a third world title, I wasn't happy with how it turned out last year but now I've got the chance to put that right.

"For me it's just about turning up and playing my own game, which if I do then I know there's a good chance I could win it.

"I say 'could' rather than 'will' because there's so many good players nowadays, whoever lifts the title this year it will be well deserved.

"Every player will tell you the first game is the worst part of the tournament but once you get through that it's a relief and you can relax your way into it."

this has always been a contentious issue though hasnt it ?
