Changing a 16 man seeded legplay invitational event to a 32 man seeded legplay ranking event is hardly going to capture the imagination. If anything change it to something totally different. Why they still havent done a 128-man "Shoot-Out" style event for all the TC holders, like they do in snooker, is beyond me. Best of 3 leg games, totally open draw from the start, all played in one weekend.

Not saying I disagree with that point of view, but do you think the same about the snooker version held every January?phil davies wrote:True but it’s still the biggest load of shit of a PDC tournement going.Ginge wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 8:33 am...which was created because ITV asked them to. I agree maybe top 64 shootout event would be better than masters all games best of 5 legs over 3 days it it ranked
Re: Van der Voort proposes new ranking event
The snooker shoot out doesn't get all the very top players entering it though..a lot don't bother and ITV have dropped it this year although Eurosport will show it and most players donot think it should be ranked..phil davies wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 12:17 pmYep the shootout event has been mentioned a few times on here. A definet event that should be done. Even better make it the first event after Q school a nice reward for the new tour card holders.Ginge wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 10:50 amHe needs to stop moaning then ffs.ChrisW wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 10:47 amMakes a fair whack from studio work with RTL7 these days. I cannot see the very top darts players wanting a best of 3 shoot out for 128 players..it just won't happen.

At least its still on telly though, I actually quite enjoy it.

Vinny is selfless and honest, he and MvG are mates, VvdV always gives his honest opinion, i like to think thats why he is liked on RTL.Ginge wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 10:39 am If Vinny doesnt like it, thankfully for him he has an alternative: he can go and ply his trade on the other tour which only has three TV events a year (four if you count one which is only on a regional Dutch TV station ), and he may not qualify for all of those either.
Oh and you seem to be losing the plot a bit, using your energy pinpointing any weird thing about darts, what's your new hobby going to be? And when?

Re: Van der Voort proposes new ranking event
What is of interest is that both sports Hearn controls snooker & darts, players are starting slowly but surely to speak out about how things are done o Sullivan in snooker & in darts recently Ian White backed up by gando re the playing on tv stages & now this, it is well known vvv isnt shy about speaking for the masses, Hearn is now 70+ the question is how long is he going to keep his iron grip on proceedings ( his way or no way) perhaps a few players are concluding darts is a business for him & in some businesses a lot of the workers are a commodity, & under a future different leader they would like things done slightly differently, up the comrades
Re: Van der Voort proposes new ranking event
O'Sullivan didn't have too many backing him up. He was having one of his usual moans.

But O’Sullivan’s moan is that there are too many ranking events. Vvdv is completely the opposite.only85 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 7:38 pm What is of interest is that both sports Hearn controls snooker & darts, players are starting slowly but surely to speak out about how things are done o Sullivan in snooker & in darts recently Ian White backed up by gando re the playing on tv stages & now this, it is well known vvv isnt shy about speaking for the masses, Hearn is now 70+ the question is how long is he going to keep his iron grip on proceedings ( his way or no way) perhaps a few players are concluding darts is a business for him & in some businesses a lot of the workers are a commodity, & under a future different leader they would like things done slightly differently, up the comrades
For the players to play full time as they are now the sports need to be as they are, otherwise they will revert back to 5,10, 15 years ago.
How many of the younger generation will start to complain who have seen the growth etc etc. At a guess not a lot as they know what they are getting into.
Re: Van der Voort proposes new ranking event
What was Ian White”s complaint ?
As noted VVV and O”S have completely the reverse complaints.
In some ways I sympathise with O”S in that outside the World Championship, events have 128 full tour card draws so with all the matches the tournaments have to be played in leisure centre type multi table venues.
Look at the ongoing U.K. Open it is snookers 2nd most important ranked event and has this. Also all the extra matches mean game lengths are halved compared to few years ago. However darts Matchplay has 16 OOM seeds and 16 qualifiers in single stage prestigious venue.
Don’t get VVV moans about The Masters. It’s not invitational as it’s 16 top in OOM so you qualify by doing well on tour. Would have no problem seeing it or Champions League top 7/8 in OOM and last year”s winner ranked.
If he wants to moan complain about Premier League and the increasing number of World Series invitational events.
For the lower ranked OOM jobbers there are plenty of opportunities. Now direct entry to U.K. Open Finals and more Pro Tour and Euro Tour events although for the later they have to qualify.

Why should he moan about Premier League if that funds the prize money for the Tour?malcy93 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 12:57 am What was Ian White”s complaint ?

That isn’t invitational it’s top 16. So any player can qualify. Just need to start winning games and move up OOM.
I mention that is invitational for 6 of the 10 players. The other 4 qualify as top 4 in OOM.

O’Sullivan wants a best 10 results system I.e BDO ranking, rather than go to every event just to stay on top. You could argue that’s why Barney is now retiring as he is dropping like a stone, difference is he isn’t backing it up with results in the tournaments he does bother to enter. Snooker and darts logistics/timescale is completely different though but something to recognise in the future
Re: Van der Voort proposes new ranking event
I though to some degree Hearn has recognised it will come.
He’s talked about the top players doing a global tour so ever expanded World Series as people around the world want to see the players live they see on TV in the majors.
You then have a second division of tour card jobbers doing the Pro Tour leisure centres aiming to qualify for the majors and move up.
Then the Euro tour sits in the middle. Is a stage event to crowds of up to 5k or so. But that needs to become less German centric. Play the German events in bigger venues so you need less events there for same number of available tickets or add more events and take up to say 20.

Re: Van der Voort proposes new ranking event
O'Sullivan got no support from the tour about snooker..Judd Trump said he definitely didn't reflect the views of the tour...O'Sullivan just wants a cosy one table event for the elite but forgetting that players have to get a way of getting to that elite..
Ian White's argument was about being on board 2 at Minehead..well that's an argument with ITV who.put the players they would prefer on board 1..they pay the money after all and White has hardly being the most thrilling TV player yet in his career...it's an argument they have in tennis and any sport where TV decide what they want to show..
As for Van der Voort..I think he has a point..it's a dangerous game to increase the World Series events on top of events like The Masters, Champions League , World Series Finals etc....if they are trying to.promote a professional Tour that more players can be full time on then these events just cater for the elite who are already full time...The PL is fine and is a huge showcase...I think there is a case for the Masters to become a ranked event in sone way and certainly the World Series finals should have a way to become a ranked weekend but cannot be in its present form as there are too many invites..The Champions League is fine..

Re: Van der Voort proposes new ranking event
I think they'd really need to move a ranking Masters. It's a month after the end of the World Championships, with no other ranking tournament before it.trotter wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 9:51 am As for Van der Voort..I think he has a point..it's a dangerous game to increase the World Series events on top of events like The Masters, Champions League , World Series Finals etc....if they are trying to.promote a professional Tour that more players can be full time on then these events just cater for the elite who are already full time...The PL is fine and is a huge showcase...I think there is a case for the Masters to become a ranked event in sone way and certainly the World Series finals should have a way to become a ranked weekend but cannot be in its present form as there are too many invites..The Champions League is fine..
If they shuffled it after one or two Players weekends it would at least give players more of a run up at it.
But, I agree with him on principle
Re: Van der Voort proposes new ranking event
would love to see more set play in any new events.
