Peter Wright continuing his 2 months of poor results. But not continuing his poor run of performances as this was a much improved performance, a 95 average and about 8 of those missed doubles were in one 1st set leg, so distorts things slightly. Alcinas never missed an opportunity to snatch a leg and did the right things at the right times, credit to the Spaniard.

Wright has still had a very good year all in all. Let's look at it - final of the Grand Prix in October, final of the Champions League in September, final of the World Cup in June, 1/2 final World Matchplay in July, 2 finals on the European Tour and a stack of semi-finals, two ProTour titles and a World Series stage win in Melbourne. Of course lots of disappointments, especially since the Grand Prix the past 2 months, but still a year to be proud of where he has played some exceptional darts.

Class act Wright at the end, gracious in defeat, throwing flights into the crowd and waving & saying thank you to them, absolutely fantastic sportsman is Snakebite. How many other players would do that, genuinely?

PETER WRIGHT has vowed to bounce back in 2019 after his shock defeat to Toni Alcinas in the second round of the 2018/19 William Hill World Darts Championship.

Former world finalist Wright was sent crashing out at Alexandra Palace as Alcinas punished his missed darts at double for a 3-1 Spanish victory.

Despite becoming the victim of the biggest shock of the tournament so far, an upbeat Wright was quick to look ahead to next year.

"Obviously I'm gutted to be out," said Wright, who last went out at the last 64 stage at the 2012 World Championship.

"I actually felt better than I have all year to be honest but it wasn't to be and Toni took out the right finishes at the right time, that's how it goes in set play sometimes.

"Maybe some of the commentators are right, maybe I am changing my darts too much but the darts I used on Sunday are the best I've held in my hand so I'm going to stick with them and bounce back next year.

"If I stick with one set of darts they're all in trouble. I've still got the confidence and I'm looking forward to the next game already."

The action continues on Monday evening with three further first round ties, including Anastasia Dobromyslova's return to Ally Pally, before Van Barneveld's second round meeting with Labanauskas.

Still think a lot of his recent comments are him flying a kite ( seeing which direction the winds blowing) regarding trying to position himself in the pdpa as a representative on behalf of the players that he feels are not beeen treated equally,

Big difference between Ilagan and a lot of these international qualifiers is that he has genuine belief that he deserves to be up there

High quality match. Vincent will be relieved to come through the game as Ilagan played really well, and had some real chances to make it a much tighter match.
