Will there be a darts boom in Japan after Mikuru Suzuki win today?
Re: Will there be a darts boom in Japan after Mikuru Suzuki win today?
So in summary then, it received minimal press coverage, only a few thousand actually watched the stream of the event and we are going off the word of one of the shittest commentators of recent times?

13 people on here still think they'll be a darts boom in Japan though...

Martin Adams actually said when on the stage with Nicholson that this win could not only turn around the fortunes of ladies darts but could be a turning point for the BDO itself.
think he caught the enthusiasm from Nicholson

Well Tony is judging by the above, so yes, it looks like he is a liar.
So much for your Japanese darts expert, eh?

It's irrelevant anyway. Suzuki may be getting treated as a star inside the darts bubble at tournament sites or sponsor shindigs. Leave the building that those are taking place in, and it'll be a whole different matter.

Re: Will there be a darts boom in Japan after Mikuru Suzuki win today?
Do I see this changing the ladies game.
Yes is my answer.
Plans were already in place for more for the ladies with a Japanese sponsor doing what they did in Japan for the ladies out there when they wanted to get there game off the ground. Something to be released in the next few weeks for a new 9 player ladies team.
Last I heard, There was 220k registered lady players in Japan playing darts, Be that Steel or Soft.
I think we will see an increase in Ladies prize fund in the BDO worlds next year, Maybe increase in WDT and Winmau depending on who sponsors it and a PDC tour in 2020 which even Hearn mentioned on Twitter.
And I believe there will be an event in Japan later this year with decent money for the ladies which will make it worth the top players travelling. Not saying a major event, But I believe a decent paying event, Plus the opportunity for some players to do demo's out there and public appearances which is what most top Japanese lady players do every week or so.

So pretty much like all female darts players.

....which would be happening anyway if they find a sponsor, no matter who won Lakeside.Bag Carrier wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 1:53 pm

Anyway we have had this before. I remember when people were proclaiming Channel 4 were going to pump the money up for the second year of the Lakeside deal. Never happened

Yes Im arguing with his opinion( "I think"). Nico not going to Japan seems to be a "fact", which I certainly wont be arguing against...
