2019 Q-School

Re: 2019 Q-School
The Grand Slam wasn't a ranked event then - it only became ranked irrc two years ago and this potential situation hasn't cropped up before. If the BDO did decide to give a place to Durrant despite him switching he would potentially be getting money added on to his PDC OOM total for an event he didn't qualify for in the PDC. That's all I am saying.Mensur Suljovic Fan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 5:41 pmIt's happened plenty of times before, I believe Michael van Gerwen's debut in the Grand Slam was achieved as a BDO player before he switched. I believe that money stayed on his OoM total, and I think the rules are still the same (MvG is fine by me as the BDO was pretty strong then, would be a bit dodgy now that it's a lot weaker but hey, what can you do). As Ginge says, it could all be academic...in more ways than oneMurphio wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 5:22 pmI am not talking about the Grand Slam past - I am talking about the next one. If he wins a card he will play in the Slam in November as a BDO entrant despite the fact he will be a PDC player. Would it be fair that money was added on to his OOM total when his qualification for the event came from winning a BDO event.Mensur Suljovic Fan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 5:18 pmNo, because he's not a PDPA member. Even Adam Smith-Neale's would have reverted to zero had he gone to Wigan and won a tour card because if you're out of that top 64 by the end of the year (and are not on a 2 year card) you go back to 0Murphio wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 5:13 pm Would be very disappointing - and in my view exposed a flawed system - if Glenn Durrant and Scott Waites fail to win Tour Cards. I mean ffs they have five Lakesides between them and one is a PDC Major winner.
Incidentally - in relation to the Grand Slam - if Durrant does get a card would his Grand Slam money count towards the OOM since he qualified as a BDO player?
EDIT: Unless, of course, he qualifies through the PDC criteria as well in the meantime.

Re: 2019 Q-School
It's a 4 day event where you can either win through by winning 7 or 8 matches on a good day, or showing a consistent high standard of play. Durrant has done neither.Murphio wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 5:13 pm Would be very disappointing - and in my view exposed a flawed system - if Glenn Durrant and Scott Waites fail to win Tour Cards. There's the Challenge Tour and Development Tour as an alternative route. Or you can do a Ratajski and use your special opportunities to get ranking money and earn enough to get in the top 64.
Re: 2019 Q-School
I have just checked - the BDO has awarded (been allocated) automatic places to the Lakeside winner and runner up in every year the Grand Slam has been run. This year that would entitle both Scott Waites and Glenn Durrant entry as BDO players. If both win cards tomorrow you will have a potential situation where both are entitled (as PDC players) to have whatever they win added on to their PDC OOM total - despite the fact that neither would have necessarily* qualified through the PDC route. This is unprecedented.
*They could also qualify through normal PDC routes in the meantime.

Re: 2019 Q-School
Hearing a rumour Durrant isn't meant to be there last day due to an exhibition.
Re: 2019 Q-School
McGeeney could take his place on Sunday

Re: 2019 Q-School
I’m pretty sure Steve Bunting qualified for the GSOD through Lakeside despite switching a few weeks after winning.
Re: 2019 Q-School
Ah, it's multi-day event with a bunch of different players. He could probably skip the Sunday OK. It's not like people will be there to see a Q School failure.

Apparently Deta may have played crap as it was "very chilly in the venue".

In recent years but didn't in 2010 for example
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Grand_Slam_of_Darts
There were only 7 BDO invites due to Adam no longer being invited by the PDC
and 7 again in 2011
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Grand_Slam_of_Darts
Again due to Adams
Re: 2019 Q-School
That was before the PDC gave the BDO the power to do as they please with their 8 spots.
Before that the PDC named the events and that's why the numbers fluctuated.

Thinking of one.
Re: 2019 Q-School
I think he did but this was before the PDC allowed the BDO to select their players and the agreement came in which led to the BDO asking Wolfie to play.
