Steve- Given I said I had no wish to get into the "Is the PL a Major debate" and that I can't be bothered reading through this old thread, I have no option , but to wholeheartedly agree on your take that the PL is without doubt, a Major

A major is normally just because it's on TV. Premier League darts is a tour for crowds and it's a good watch most weeks but never a major. Not enough people play in it, some argue "because they aren't good enough to qualify" which would be fair if it was the top 10 in the order of merit but it isn't.
Sky Sports pick players who viewers know, I bet when Taylor starts to slip in the ranking one day he'll be picked.

If it was Top 10 in the PDC after the world champs I would maybe consider it a major, but isn't like TPC in golf which is the top 100 and also not a major. It reminds me of an elitist exhibition used to promote the sport and it works!!

Two reason why it shouldn't:

1 - its an invitational event
2 - It isnt ranked.

The money dont show on the order of merit and rightfully so, and what type of major would it be where a player like taylor who dominates for 14 weeks could lose because of one single game.
Its an glorified exbo, a bloody damn good one with large crowd, great money etc....but an exbo nonetheless

They've included RvB solely because he's a big name but he's past his best now. Has he actually won anything in the last 5 years?

Then there's this 'contender' thing they're doing, nowt wrong with trying something different with Anderson withdrawing. It does show what the PL is and it's not a major, it's a series of exhibitions.
