Yeah Sheffield was a nightmare they were just starting the Last 64 about half five , I was at the venue at 10 am , played round of 128 at 4.30 ish :DDD:

That’s my one attempt this year done , played ok lost to Anthony Speight 4-3 from being 3-1 up! Decent game , didn’t have a chance to win until leg 7 but missed tops .
I heard about 30 people never turned up today at Sheffield which causes mayhem when it comes to the draw so no doubt because of this loads of people had played twice before others had thrown a dart - I was asked to travel from Coventry to Sheffield to run the event as they were struggling to find somebody but I gave it a miss as its a long way to go for just expenses - how many boards were they using Tony?

Yep quite a few byes to round 3, and others with a pre Lin win being enough to get to round 3, Paul was running it as well as he could using all 6 boards.

They should also not do a pre draw, should do the draw after registration .

I thought that Paul would end up taking it on but thankless task as Paul and myself were saying to each other a few weeks back - need to go back to the old draw format where draw is done at close of registration

I reckon it should be one entry only allowed , that would end the massive fields. Once you get knocked out then you’re out the uk Open , instead of potentially five or six attempts.

The whole thing needs an overhaul, Rileys are quite frankly, Taking the piss with these qualifiers, Half the time they don't have anyone in place to run the qualifiers, Heard that at the Worcester event, One of the players partners ended up having to run it.

It has got beyond a joke now, Rileys are all take take take, Preferred it much more when you had local pub qualifiers and regional finals, Perhaps one way forward is to have a Q-School type weekend or couple of weekends somewhere over 4 events with 2 players each event going through then rest of the places made up from the order of merit from the 4 events.

In 2008 when I got through you had local events ( our local event the pub didn’t even know they were on a bloody list , had no dart board up, I said to the guy to see if anyone else enquires take contact details and we’ll arrange a playoff somewhere, I was the only one so he filled in the sheet and put me through to the regional played at Batley. 8 went through from Batley, good venue that.

I remember how it was with Punch Taverns, There were 6 venues not far from me so I rang them all first and the closest one to me knew nothing about it then attended one that there were 34 or 35 entries and qualified through that, Went to Villa Park for the regional finals and lost the final match (Was a highly entertaining day)

Few years before that The Wheatsheaf in Oxford had qualifiers for each of the UK Open Regional Finals where the winner was put into the draw at each with PDC players, I qualified for 3 of those Shooters Hill & Welling, Sheffield and Manchester but always thought the better way of doing it was via a pub qualifier to get a place in a regional qualifier final then play off for so many places.

If Rileys ran the qualifiers better and there was more reward for the players then I would be more inclined to attend a few but as it is I just can't be arsed and think the whole thing needs looking at.

Not sure. I can imagine he lost to someone of Oche's calibre though. That's his level these days.
