Re: World Trophy 2019 qualifiers
So of the 27 players named for the BDO event to date. 15 aren’t British, 2 are former PDC tour card holders and 7 failed to get through Q-School.
It’s not a great look to try and promote a British organisation to British companies when your trying to sell it as a organisation that’s bouncing back

Re: World Trophy 2019 qualifiers
Obviously invite the best players you have available. However to have less than half the field British when the British Darts Organisation is organising is poor. Then when a large chunk of the field are failed players trying to get into the PDC it’s not a good look when trying to brand the event to venues and sponsors in the UK.ChrisW wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 8:04 amTennis players?Ginge wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 7:53 amWho do you expect them to invite instead? The Jolly Man wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 6:55 am So of the 27 players named for the BDO event to date. 15 aren’t British, 2 are former PDC tour card holders and 7 failed to get through Q-School.

That doesnt matter, a huge sponsor is on board apparently, despite being kept a secret for months.

They are the qualifiers though.. That's the deal that they have to deal with.. unless you invite MVG as a wildcard! The Jolly Man wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 10:45 amObviously invite the best players you have available. They could still promote that line up if a venue was set in stone.. but they have left it too late to announce a venue and therefore too late for attracting a decent crowd... looks like lots of freebies may be on offer which in itself will put people off buying them initially.

Re: World Trophy 2019 qualifiers
So what's your solution? Remove a foreign seed and replace him in the line up with someone like Doggy Dawson, just to get the number of British players up? And that will attract the sponsors how exactly? The Jolly Man wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 10:45 amObviously invite the best players you have available. Whether you like it or not, this line up pretty much represents the best of what the BDO have got to work with at the moment. And given that this is the result of stupendous levels of mismanagement over the last 2 decades, there's not going to be a quick fix.
Re: World Trophy 2019 qualifiers
Since when did it become important to have a 'world' event mostly represented by the host country?
Re: World Trophy 2019 qualifiers
The BDO is the host and organizing organization of the majority of the top non-PDC tournaments. The Jolly Man wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 10:45 amObviously invite the best players you have available. For a combination of reasons, the top of the BDO is now Dutch heavy, and that's likely to continue.
Re: World Trophy 2019 qualifiers
The problem is given the 'relaxation' of the qualifying criteria that Des brought in in a very short space of time the top of the BDO is going to be full of failed QS people.
So in effect as it stands at the moment the BDO & Lakeside etc will become some weird quasi Challenge Tour championships.
Thanks to Des he's now enabling the PDC to take over the BDO flagships by proxy
Re: World Trophy 2019 qualifiers
I'm not sure it'll happen that way.el_ringo wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 1:53 pmThe problem is given the 'relaxation' of the qualifying criteria that Des brought in in a very short space of time the top of the BDO is going to be full of failed QS people.

The top Challenge Tour players get to play in Players Championships and get to enter qualifying for European Tour events. So I think that many of the "better failures" will only play PDC.
I think that it's the established players who've dropped hard (e.g. Hamilton, Newton, Caven) who're more likely to do the BDO, since they're not going to be competitive on the Challenge Tour, and they're looking to pick up form.
I think that the top of the BDO is more likely to be players who've never played PDC. Young talent, and players who're at a moderate level (especially Dutch players) who feel that the PDC Tour would be too much of a grind to be worth it. (A player struggling in the PDC might never get a stage game.)

the dutch are the top of the bdo - harms and veestra are in the worlds top 10 players - but dont count out scotty dogg - he may not be on there level at the moment - but itll be different come lakey - thats where men are made - scotty loves lakey - as he said - its the wembley of darts - its where the best shine - harms and veestra have yet to shine on the stage - mitchell has -
as for the trophy - i think harms will win it - hes overdue a major -
