AMERICAN star Larry Butler will be aiming to secure his big-stage return in the US Darts Masters and North American Championship next month.

Butler, 61, has established himself as a legend of the sport during a career spanning three decades, which is headlined by his 1994 World Matchplay triumph.

However, he was sidelined in June 2018 after suffering a heart attack following his return to America after competing in the World Cup of Darts in Germany.

He missed the World Series of Darts' visit to Las Vegas last summer as he continued his recovery, but has returned to competing this year and is amongst the entries for the qualifiers on July 2-3.

Eight north American players will secure spots in the US Darts Masters and North American Championship through the four qualifying tournaments at the Mandalay Bay Casino and Resort.

2019 World Championship qualifier Chuck Puleo will join his American World Cup team-mate Darin Young amongst the contenders from the USA.

Father-and-son duo Dan Lauby and Danny Lauby - a semi-finalist in the 2018 North American Championship - are joined by veteran stars Jim Widmayer and Roger Carter in action.

Three-time World Champion John Part, reigning North American Championship winner Jeff Smith and World Cup aces Dawson Murschell and Jim Long will head the Canadian contingent competing in Las Vegas.

Entries for the US Darts Masters and North American Championship Qualifiers will close on Friday June 28 at 1600 BST.

Eligibility For Entry
The US Masters and North American Darts Championship is open to players over the age of 16 who hold a valid USA or Canada passport (regardless of residence in the USA or Canada) OR players who reside in the USA or Canada and have done so for a continuous period of three years immediately dating back from the day of the event. Residency is defined as having their main place of residence registered in the territory.

All players who did not compete at the 2019 PDC Qualifying School need to register their details with the new PDC Online Entry System via THIS LINK.

Once you have registered and you receive an email to confirm that your account has been approved, you can enter via THIS LINK.

Entry costs £70 per event (approx $100) and all events will be played under DRA Rules. Players can enter as many or few of the Qualifiers as they wish. Entries close at 1600 BST (UK time) on Friday June 28 2019.

Players who enter a minimum of two Qualifiers will receive two complimentary tickets to each session of the stage events on July 4-5.

RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD is excited to be playing in Australia and New Zealand for one final time before retirement in a trio of World Series of Darts events.

Five-time World Champion Van Barneveld will be part of the Oceanic treble-header in Brisbane, Melbourne and Hamilton in August alongside Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, Peter Wright and Rob Cross.

The Dutch legend, 52, who is a former World Series finalist in both Australia and New Zealand, will retire at the conclusion of the 2019/20 World Championship and is looking forward to playing in front of his Oceanic fans one last time.

"It gives fans in Australia, New Zealand, America and Germany chance to see their favourite players live which is really important.

"They are really important for players as well because we get to travel all over the world, playing in amazing venues in front of amazing crowds."

A further three places in the Brisbane Darts Masters and Melbourne Darts Masters will be on offer in DPA Qualifiers, which will be held from July 4-7 in Warilla, alongside one spot in the NZ Darts Masters. For details, please visit dartplayersaustralia.com.

Re: World Series of Darts 2019

DAWSON MURSCHELL spoke of his love for Las Vegas and his big ambitions in the sport ahead of his return to 'the entertainment capital of the world' in July.

Murschell, who famously made his mark in PDC darts by knocking James Wade out of the 2017 US Darts Masters, will be aiming to secure his big-stage return in the 2019 US Darts Masters and North American Championship.

The 23-year-old is amongst the entries for the qualifiers on July 2-3 at the Mandalay Bay Casino and Resort, from which eight North American players will secure spots in the US Darts Masters and North American Championship.

"I love Vegas, that's my city when it comes to darts," said Murschell, who reached the quarter-finals of the US Darts Masters in both 2017 and 2018.

"I just love everything that comes with playing there; the atmosphere and having everybody around who I grew up with in the darts scene.

"It's massively important for North American players to get the chance to play against the big names of the PDC.

"It gives North Americans the chance to show what we can do on TV and on a stage.

"By winning a few games it shows we can compete, which will in turn encourage darts to grow in America and Canada."

Following his landmark win over Wade, Murschell won a PDC Tour Card for the first time in January 2018, but is yet to make it past the Last 32 stage of a ProTour event.

Starring in his second World Cup of Darts earlier in June, the Canadian youngster defeated Michael van Gerwen in a singles tie as he reached the quarter-finals alongside Jim Long, and Murschell is hoping that win is a sign of things to come.

"It's like shooting an arrow, you have to pull it back before it can fly," Murschell added.

"There have been some tough times for me since I moved to the UK to play on the ProTour, I've suffered a number of setbacks and had some lonely times.

"But since I've moved closer to Ted Evetts and a few other friends I've enjoyed myself more and feel my best form is coming because of it.

"If anything my expectations have risen since I first started on the ProTour.

"There's no qut in me. It's not 'if' I make a big impact it's 'when' and I believe Vegas could be the platform for me to achieve something big."

THERE will be a record entry of over 190 players for the 2019 US Darts Masters and North American Championship Qualifiers in Las Vegas next week.

The PDC's World Series of Darts returns to the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, with two days of qualifying on July 2-3 preceding the stage events on July 4-5.

Eight places are on offer in the stage events, with each winner of the four qualifying events being joined by the top four players from the Qualifiers Order of Merit.

A total of 191 players have entered across the four qualifying tournaments, with interest building year-on-year since the World Series of Darts first visited Las Vegas in 2017.

This year's entrants are headlined by three-time World Champion John Part, 1994 World Matchplay winner Larry Butler, current PDC Tour Card Holder Dawson Murschell and reigning North American Darts Champion Jeff Smith.

Recent BetVictor World Cup of Darts representatives Jim Long (Canada), Darin Young and Chuck Puleo (both USA) will also be in action.

2008 UK Open finalist Gary Mawson is joined in the field by father-and-son duo Dan and Daniel Lauby, former World Championship qualifiers David Fatum, Ken MacNeil, Dan Olson, Ross Snook and Dave Richardson.

Chris White, Shawn Brenneman, Jim Widmayer and Roger Carter are other players with big-stage experience bidding to secure their spot.

"It's fantastic news to see record numbers of players entering the qualifiers in Las Vegas next week," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

"The past two years of the US Darts Masters and North American Championship have been a huge boost to the sport across the USA and Canada, and next week promises to be a great start to the 2019 World Series of Darts.

"We know that competition in the Qualifiers alone will be fierce and not all of these brilliant players can win a spot on the big stage - but the opportunity is there for someone to make a name for themselves in the bright lights of Las Vegas!"

The US Darts Masters will be played from 1200 local time on Thursday July 4 and Friday July 5, with the eight qualifiers taking on eight top PDC stars in the World Series of Darts event.

The 2019 North American Championship will take place from 1800 on Thursday July 4, with the eight players facing off in a bid to win the $10,000 first prize and a place in the William Hill World Darts Championship.

Results from the Qualifiers will be available through the PDC website and DartConnect on July 2-3.

Worldwide TV coverage of the US Darts Masters and North American Darts Championship will include live broadcasts through DAZN in the USA, Canada and Brazil.

UK fans will be able to watch the US Darts Masters through ITV4, with the North American Championship available worldwide through PDCTV-HD at video.pdc.tv.
