I do wonder if the BDO system might unravel quite quickly and we are seeing the start of this.

We are guessing I know, but if the euro sport deal is cancelled unless all 3 events happen every year then the importance of the WDT is massive. Why not put it on anywhere with a reduced prizefund (are the players going to boycott?), free tickets and get the news out. Then focus on the next 2.

If Nick Kenny point is correct this silence from des is having a massive knock on effect!

The CLoD has also been cancelled. Not that surprising. As main reason was to fill up some qualifying spots.

All these years, the hotel's large events hall was transformed into a true darts arena in December for 3 days. The list of winners says enough, including greats such as Raymond van Barneveld, Gary Anderson, Glenn Durrant, Mervyn King, Scott Waites, Darryl Fitton and Danny Noppert. From 2008 there was also a ladies tournament with winners such as Trina Gulliver, Lisa Ashton, Anastasia Dobromyslova and Aileen de Graaf and since 2011 there has also been a strong youth tournament.
The tournament has had several main sponsors, from 2001-2004 Doeland, in 2005 Leendesk, from 2007 - 2014 Hotel Zuiderduin and from 2015 -2018 Finder. The director of Finder had already indicated that he would stop as a main sponsor after 2018. From that moment on, the organization has tried to find a new main sponsor for this world-class darts tournament. Unfortunately, this has not been successful and the organization must, as it now looks, decide that the 2019 edition will not take place.

Richard Nan, on behalf of the hotel and the organization: “This is a tough one. For 17 years, around 700 darts fans have been sitting in the main hall of the hotel for 3 days. Many of them even stay in the hotel for the entire weekend. All players also spend the night here, so that fans have enough opportunity to get in touch with their darts idols and get their picture taken. For these fans this was an annual outing, the first reservations were made almost a year in advance. In addition, many television watching fans will also be disappointed. The entire tournament could be followed live on television all those years, in recent years also on the internet via a live stream. The viewing figures increased every year, with the 2018 edition at its peak with a total reach that exceeded one million. We had already concluded a media contract for the next 3 years. A fantastic exhibition package for a new main sponsor was ready, which would certainly keep the investment under control. That is why we were confident that we could present a nice name giver for the December 2019 and subsequent years edition. But unfortunately this has not been possible to date. Based on the current situation, we are forced to cancel the media contract and to inform the players, darts association and other stakeholders. In this way we want to thank all the players who have been on stage with us for their efforts and great performances all those years. Of course we also thank the BDO, NDB, sponsors, callers, officials and volunteers who helped make the tournament a huge success.

CLoD end in sight

From the first edition in 2008, the Champions League of Darts (CLoD) at Hotel Zuiderduin in Egmond aan Zee proved to be a success. All those years there was a fanatic battle in the Zuiderduinzaal for the Winmau, Lakeside play-offs and the Darts Masters. During the tournaments it became clear how much talent there is in the Netherlands. Thanks to this tournament, several winners have moved on to the professional darts circuit, something the organization can look back on with pride.
As stated above, the end of that tournament is unfortunately in sight. When the Darts Masters disappear, the CLoD will no longer be organized.
Along this path, the organization wants to thank everyone who has contributed in any way to the success of this event. A special word of thanks goes to the NDB who has been in charge of communication to member organizations for all those years and of course to all member organizations that have registered for the tournament to offer their members the chance of a career in darts.

Might as well make the northern Cyprus open a major, it get better promotion than any tournament in the BDO calendar and thats including the world championship.
