Absolutely stupid. Taylor actually put an effort in in his final year. Barney had been pathetic. Its all his own doing.

Doesn't matter whether Taylor put effort in. He hardly played in anything, but he was still a better player than van Barneveld is. Taylor played 3 ranking events in the 2017 season:
World Matchplay - winner
Grand Slam of Darts - won group, semi-final
World Championship - final

He could have not retired and been top 8.

In non-ranking events:
Masters - semi-final
Premier League - semi-final
Champions League - semi-final
WSoD: QF QF SF W QF F

Not sure if just crap from the commentators during his match but they said he will be at the World Series Finals to say his farewells to his Dutch fans. Well given his form he will lose in the first round of World Series events in Australasia as well so not going to make the qualifiers for the Final so I guess he is assuming the PDC will give him a wildcard with the other invited players who make up the numbers.

It may not be absolutely certain, but even if he had 4 1st round losses, he would very likely still be in the top 16 of the World Series OOM. Plus his first round opponents down under are likely to be easier than Clemens, so even if his form isn't great he should still reach a couple of QFs at least.

The problem is they drag it out too much. They play almost as many legs on the final night of the ET events.

It’s all the extra crap which takes long. They do pre and post match interviews with the players. That allows two advertising breaks between each match so double the length of gaps between matches they need. I guess needed here for the TV companies to make their money from advertisers. On ET doesn’t really matters as it’s only the PDC the,selves and betting companies legally streaming it and they aren’t advertisers funded.
