Looks like Des has convinced people this AEG crew are the sponsors, when they are merely venue owners and event promoters. Probably only had to flutter his eyelids today to convince them.
If there were a sponsor on board they would have been announced and the name of the WC would have changed from 'BDO World Professional' to the sponsor's name.

Amazing once again how excited people are about bdo booking a venue and how amazing they are for achieving it, as if it really is a genuine achievement. It really is quite odd.

So the loss of the BDO's biggest sponsor is now lauded as great news! Its madness gone mad!

From FB

Alan Soutar

Was a very good AGM for me, there is a huge amount of work to do still but I am going to say Des and the team in power at the moment have achieved incredible things so far, especially when they were handed the ships wheel when it was almost shipwrecked on a deserted island......
One thing that’s not been covered so far about the Indigo........The BDO gets ALL the revenue from tickets sales for the entire event!!!
9 days of the World Championships with potentially 1700 fans in at each session....
BDO are going to be involved in the ticket pricing.....
This is a game changer if the guys pull off bums on seats. Hundreds of thousands of pounds revenue right there..... Every year, for the next 10 years....(potentially)
Des also seems to have controlled the haemorrhaging of Money in bills for offices, storage, accountants etc. £20,000 a year plus saving on the these various things.
Of course we will have to wait and see how everything transpires over the next 6-12 months but from a players point of view things look a lot better.

So, to summarise:

In the 5 years prior to Des taking over the BDO:

Lost the BBC
Lost Channel 4
Lost BT Sport
Lost Eurosport
Lost Winmau
Played the World Trophy in a social club in the back end of Wales
Lost all credibility and self respect with the 'New Era' debacle
Lost TV coverage for the World Masters and World Trophy

In the last year under Des Jacklin the BDO has:

Signed a 3-year tv deal for all three majors
Secured a 10-year deal to host World Championship with full ticket revenue control
Brought costs under some kind of control
Secured sponsorship of World Masters
Secured iconic darts venue for World Masters
Pissed off a lot of people in the process!

Not sure there can be much doubt about which regime has achieved more positive results.

Leaving Lakeside is a big gamble, but time was running out on that venue anyway, so why not twist rather than stick?

Nicely put. BDO is on the way out anyway apparently so why not see if fresh ideas work.

Estimates will probably start around the 1/4 million mark.

Im sure someone will say they are happy to just take bar profits, that's the usual line...
Because yeah, I'm sure AEG just take a few quid off the bar and are happy... lol
