I suppose more worryingly for the BDO, can Eurosport cancel a broadcast contract on this basis?

Isn’t the PDC world championship in effect unofficial as not part of the governing body of darts the WDF? (genuine question)
Well yes, but broadcast partners (Sky/ITV etc) will be fully aware of this. Be rather worrying if not!

If Eurosport have signed a broadcast contract on the basis of Lakeside/the o2 being the "official" World Championship, and now in effect it isnt, then it opens a whole can of legal worms.

Oh come on, that’s rather scraping the barrel to suggest Eurosport signed the contract to broadcast the BDO world champs because it was the official world champs
This is a discussion board, no? Merely discussing the possibility, chill out.

the suggestion is that it could be a reason for Eurosport finding a reason to pull out, rather than why they initially signed.

I don't want Eurosport to dump the BDO. I won't have anything to laugh at.

Indeed. Imagine this scenario:

"We need to get out of this contract, the chairman of the board is an absolute arse and we can't work with him and viewing figures are poor, but the contract is watertight...oh hello whats this? A letter from the WDF? lets check the small print..."

Unlikely, but you never know.

Could the WDF take over the contract?

Can't see Eurosport pulling out.. It makes no difference to them at present what's happened and at the moment most viewers will be unaware as well..
Bigger concern is if the prize fund is honoured and then future events down the line.

Well yes, cant see it either. But you never know what is in contracts.

There was that episode of The Simpsons where Lisa became Little Miss Springfield, they used an obscure contract clause to remove that title from her. So if it can happen there....

This is a win win for Eurosport, they get the hours of space filler all paid for by the BDO and then argue all the infringements and brand risk this shambles presents and then only pay 30% of the contract value. For instant heard BDO have moved from one of the top production companies to a small outfit to save money, so coverage will be a bit much worse. Even bigger lose on the agreement for the BDO and Eurosport get their bank of content.

So they move to a bigger venue and are cutting the broadcasting budget? What can go wrong!

Nothing when you have a demigod fixing any issues. Des is in the next DC Comics movie along side Wonder Woman, have you not heard.

How much is the new stage set costing them? Surely they arent recycling the old Lakeside one?

apparently the good Dutch Company won't do it this time (the ones from the Masters) due to financial risk.
so who does that leave 24.7 or whatever they are called - the ones who do the streaming.

Its a farce.

Not theirs so they can't use it. So will probably be almost as good as the last 2 majors, but maybe they will now have to do hand written sponsor signs.
