The darts peak started to end in 1988 . Darts has never been as popular since then in either viewing figures or people regularly playing the game and if you used the number of people playing darts and when that started to decline as a peak then that would be around the 50's.

In 10 years time i think it will be more a case of people forgetting all about the BDO being on TV etc and having their 'own' world championships as by then the PDC will be firmly entrenched , if it isn't already, as the main public body and known brand of darts.
History will only record the ironic footnote of the BDO that it died as the same time as its founder.

In 25 years I have played our league has dwindled from 30 odd teams to 15 now. Many of the players were playing when I started. Not many under 30 in the league, maybe 20 or so.

Pub darts is dying and like pubs the smoking ban didn't help, I know a few who still play in their man cave but not pub anymore.

Might be the Fallon Effect. Or the WDF initiatives. Not sure which, but its a good thing

I'm already feeling absurdly guilty that I thought you might be Rout. He speaks far more sense than you ever will.

The Playstation and X-Box have been around for a long time, so those distractions were there for many of the players currently at or near the top of the game. Pubs are dying up and down the country, that's true, but this has also been happening for quite some time!

As I tried to explain to you before, it isn't normal in darts for a teenager to come along and sweep all before them. MvG was a major winner at 17 but he had to wait a long time for his next one. In fact, he had to switch to the development/youth tour for a while to get his confidence back.

Young in darts is anyone under the age of 30, possibly even 35.

In the PDC top 32, you have Rob Cross, Michael Smith, Nathan Aspinall, Chris Dobey, Jeffrey de Zwaan, Max Hopp, Danny Noppert, Ricky Evans, Dimitri van den Bergh and Keegan Brown. Ten players under the age of 30, which isn't bad at all. This isn't tennis for goodness sake, it often takes darts players a lot longer to reach the top. Outside the top 32 you have Luke Humphries, Josh Payne, Steve Lennon, Martin Schindler, Richard North, Benito van de Pas, Jan Dekker, Jamie Lewis, Corey Cadby (okay, maybe not him lol), etc.

It's nowhere near as bleak a picture as the one you're trying to paint.
