He scheduled it to clash with a ProTour event, then complained when ProTour players weren't there?

Bloke is losing the plot.

Maybe he was expecting the PDC to cancel the pro tour event.

He is a very thin skinned, sensitive individual. It is one of the reasons he didn't win as much as he probably could have. He spends far too much time worrying about what people think of him.

Fair point but Taylor was incredibly self conscious too.

You think? Taylor strikes me as the complete opposite; someone completely lacking in self awareness. In fact I'd say he is bordering on narcissist.

He always seemed extremely insecure about what people thought about him to me.

But I guess you are right about how the two handle that insecurity. Barney a bit more insular, emotional and sensitive, whereas Taylor would be aggressive and narcissistic.

it's one of the things that takes getting used to when you retire early, you suddenly find the people who still do it treat you like somebody who doesn't

Absolutely - I think there is an incredible story here which could be an instructive piece on the destruction of a strong and established brand at the hands of custodians who were in turn arrogant, out of their depth, incompetent, desperate and ultimately corrupt.
Or alternatively one could watch the Simpsons “Monorail” episode for an approximation of the latter years of the Williams years as the BDO was fleeced by a succession of shysters followed by “Trash of the Titans” as a fairly on point analysis of the crazed management strategies of the Jacklin era.
