Re: WDF World Masters- Qualification list
I think the only reason people think the Masters is a WDF event is that it has players from all over the world in it.. It was never set up by the WDF or had anything to do with the WDF.. it is a BDO event..
Re: WDF World Masters- Qualification list
It's ail a bit bizarre that people think these wdf events will happen.
Re: WDF World Masters- Qualification list
Maybe but what evidence do we have that there is any progress yet.phil davies wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 11:32 pmWell they look more likely to happen than their BDO equivalents ATM.

Re: WDF World Masters- Qualification list
None! Lots of hope but no evidence, just an announcement of an announcement. I think it will all fall into place, but at the moment the only non-PDC majors with dates, venues and TV in place are all non-sanctioned BDO events!ChrisW wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 11:33 pmMaybe but what evidence do we have that there is any progress yet.phil davies wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 11:32 pmWell they look more likely to happen than their BDO equivalents ATM.
I wonder what they will call these new competitions, since I don't think they can use World Masters and World Championships. World Classic? International Masters? Answers on a postcard...
Re: WDF World Masters- Qualification list
Why wouldn't be able to call their World Championship precisely that?
As long as they don't call it the BDO World Championship or PDC World Championship then they can call it whatever they like. There's nothing stopping anyone from running and promoting their own World Championships and calling it that.

Re: WDF World Masters- Qualification list
Si Robin absolutely correct - there is no trademark on the word “world”. Or the words “World Championship”.
Fifa can’t sue Barry Hearn for having a “World Cup of Darts” either. Whether the WDF version is seen as credible or the best is an entirely separate matter.

I remember a couple of years ago there was a competition local to me which had the words " World Championship " in its promotion material.

It is just the very careful language they use in the statement that makes me think that they won't call it a World Championship - they say:Si Robin wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2020 7:25 am Why wouldn't be able to call their World Championship precisely that?

We will also be launching an end of season finale in the traditional format of a staged ‘World Championship’ type event, where the top men, women and youth players within our global system have the opportunity to become WDF champions.
I just wonder if they gave the BDO some form of guarantee all those years ago when the BDO started the 'Embassy' that they would not introduce an alternative version. The BDO are still an Associate Member of the WDF, so they haven't cast them off into the wilderness completely.
Either way, this year is full of uncertainties for non PDC players, but maybe more opportunities than in recent years as well!
