Unicorn "TV" Dartboards
Unicorn "TV" Dartboards
Edgar TV looking into specially and separately packaged "made for TV use" Unicorn boards compared to those sold in shops for home use.
His conclusion as a tour card holder - made for TV Boards have thinner wires and therefore larger scoring areas than a normal board.

Re: Unicorn
Is anyone really that interested in this conversation - you're arguing over less than 2mm and within a margin of error. The BDO's own rules allow for a margin of error... no two boards are the same and the BDO themselves changed their rules to allow the Blade IV when that came in a few years ago.
I'd argue the production quality in the TV board is probably a lot more precise and deliberate than a bog standard mass produced board purchased in Argos. Perhaps Ed can shed some more light.

Re: Unicorn
Actually I'd say the production quality of a TV board is less than a retail board. Because it doesn't have to last as long they put thinner wires and less compacted sisal.
Remember a TV board may knly be used for 20 minutes.
Those thinner wires on a retail board wouldn't hold up to months of pounding.

Re: Unicorn "TV" Dartboards
0.2mm difference. Call the cops.
Plus for this to carry any weight it needs to be done on a batch of boards not just one of each.

Re: Unicorn
It's not 2mm difference. It's 0.2mm, which is pretty much no difference at all.Dannyboy wrote:Is anyone really that interested in this conversation - you're arguing over less than 2mm and within a margin of error. Re: Unicorn
What is the official width of a point on a dart?

Yes my apologies - I clearly wasn't awake enough when I posted this earlier.Booji Boy wrote: ↑Sun Jun 14, 2020 10:42 amIt's not 2mm difference. I wouldn't even know how to quantify a 0.2mm difference. 2 hundredths of a cm.
Re: Unicorn
But looking at the thumbnail he is trying to say the difference is the same as shown in the picture.

Re: Unicorn
It's nowhere near, he's photos hopped it, the scoring area is bigger, however small but it is and that coupled with the thinner wires have to equate into higher averages.

Re: Unicorn
Do they use 'TV' boards for the floor tournaments ?
Or are they the 'retail' ones ?
I suspect there is no difference just different batches

Durability, not production quality.nikkiboy wrote: ↑Sun Jun 14, 2020 10:41 am Actually I'd say the production quality of a TV board is less than a retail board. Because it doesn't have to last as long they put thinner wires and less compacted sisal.

The ideal match dartboard would minimize the width of the wire and the number of bounceouts, and hold up during that match. Unicorn at least seems to be working on the wire.
Re: Unicorn
Lots of seething going on here, lovely stuff.
Re: Unicorn
Some very quick and very dirty maths suggests that, taking these single measurements on their own, double area would be increased by 4.92%, while treble area would see an increase of 1.56% on the "TV" board.
Re: Unicorn
if the segments are 0.2 mm or 2 mm bigger, so what? its a level playing field.

Spot on. The pdc can do as they wish. They have nobody to hold them to account.thecat wrote:if the segments are 0.2 mm or 2 mm bigger, so what? its a level playing field.

Re: Unicorn "TV" Dartboards
Regardless of any other point about the effects, it always been denied and ridiculed on here that 'TV Boards' even existed at all.
Ifm in particular has been heavily mocked and ridiculed for just suggesting that they have separate boards for use on TV than elsewhere. Chris Mason also suggested it on another form a long long time ago if I remember right.
Now it has been proven. That deserves acknowledgement.
