Re: Barry Hearn on sky sports news
Sounded like he was planning on moving it abroad this year.
Re: Barry Hearn on sky sports news
Going to be a risk wherever they choose. Dutch government just announced no more fans at football matches.
Re: Barry Hearn on sky sports news
The atmosphere at a darts event more important then is it?
Re: Barry Hearn on sky sports news
Was actually all sport.
Re: Barry Hearn on sky sports news
Didn’t matter in the BDO, in fact it was frowned upon in the early days, recently there was no atmosphere because there was only Oche there.

God rest Alf Garnett and Prince Phil.
I used to love cycling but unfortunately I know a man who doesn’t like cyclists.

"Darts is in a good place, more than anything it needs a crowd for the atmosphere to come across. So we've really got to maintain a positive stance on it, no retreat, no surrender."
Re: Barry Hearn on sky sports news
Some pretty optimistic hopes there,. Not so much a 1% dream as 0.001% there will be any testing that allows a full crowd in AP by december.MancheStar wrote: ↑Mon Sep 28, 2020 8:48 pm 'Hearn: PDC keeping options open for Worlds'

Smart money has to be on germany at this point and even then it will be a socially distanced event. Hearn will take that over an empty ally pally.

Re: Barry Hearn on sky sports news
Can't see the point of doing it at Ally Pally anymore. Without fans it should be done at the trusted venue.
Re: Barry Hearn on sky sports news
I don't think it'll be at Ally Pally, but don't think it'll leave the UK. Come December Germany themselves may be in a similar position as the UK. There is no point holding the event in a huge arena, if there are only the two players and the three officials in the arena.
If there is also a huge hole of players who don't want to / unable to travel, I'd say it's difficult to justify replacements miles down the Order of Merit. The qualifying structure is going to end up being a mess.

Re: Barry Hearn on sky sports news
How much longer can the PDC (and all sports) survive with no or limited crowds at TV events? This is a massive loss of revenue, more so at the Ally Pally.
Re: Barry Hearn on sky sports news
Provided they keep the TV contracts they survive.Britishnewf wrote:How much longer can the PDC (and all sports) survive with no or limited crowds at TV events? This is a massive loss of revenue, more so at the Ally Pally.
What they will need to do is follow other sports like golf and tennis by cutting prize money to reflect no ticket sales.
This is the problem with football the players won’t accept wage cuts to reflect no fans in grounds and match day revenues for clubs.
