I don't think I've seen a more emotional player! Goes from up to down to angry to happy all in the same leg! Dirk has to work at being more stable up there, take a leaf out of his opponent tonight Ian White who had no histrionics and just gets up there and throws. Lends itself to consistency.

Is it just me, or is Devon starting to believe his own hype.

When he actually wins a Major, then he can start pointing out the faults of World Champions.

Hard to believe, but he played extremely well tonight. Having gone 2-0 down he won 5 straight legs with over a 100 average in those 5 legs. Will be a good challenge for Simon tomorrow if he plays like that for sure. Clemens & Cullen must be gutted tonight, neither did what they should have last time or tonight, both made a big mess of that.

The bloke who called himself 'the icon' having an over-inflated sense of self? Who'd have thought it?

To be fair, Wade said the same thing about him at that ITV comp a few weeks back. Got a big ego for a man who has won zero major titles.

He's always had a big mouth! I don't like his demeanour on stage acting "the big I am" either, and as for criticising someone who currently holds 3 TV titles (especially the Worlds) who played his worst game of his post 2013 career by a mile, not particularly sportsmanlike or fair to be honest!

Wade was spot on too. But even if you've won major/TV titles, behaving the way he does is not at all likeable. Needs to take a leaf out of the likes of Dimitri, Rob Cross & Nathan Aspinall who are always respectful and just get on with the game without a great amount of bravado.

First person to ever get through after losing his first two games.
Was hoping someone would come back with that information, was a good question mik252 raised. Adam's second game was pretty good as I recall though.

Fighting talk!

To be fair, he has a point. Wright should stick with the world champ winning darts, his results with those prove it!

I like Devon and thinks he comes across well in his interviews.
He's only answering the questions he is being asked, and in my opinion doesn't come across as being disrespectful.

Do we really want to go down the route where players aren't allowed to pass comment on other players unless they've got certain titles on their CV? That sounds like a pretty dull world to be living in if you ask me.

This. ^^^^^^^^

It's the same argument that says people on forums shouldn't criticise players if we haven't won thousands on the tour or because we couldn't beat them in a challenge match.

The players are entitled to their opinions and are allowed to voice them.

And we then reserve the right to point out if the things they say are stupid.

Three times before last night:

2009 - Kirk Shepherd lost first match to Mervyn KIng 5-0. He then beat Fitton and Maish and qualified 2nd on leg difference.
2011 - Ted Hankey lost first match to Dean Winstanley 5-0. He then beat Barney and White and qualified 2nd.
2018 - Wesley Harms lost first match to James Wade 5-0. He then beat Keegan Brown and Mark Webster and qualified 2nd.

Seems to me that the important opinion is that of a different organisation with a TLA.

Maybe. Depends on how much they're willing to pay.
