Do you reckon thats the criteria that got Harrington, Mardle, Nicholson, Warriner, Dawson, Pyke etc involved?

Silly argument. Being good and consistent enough to show up three years in a row as the favourite and lift the trophy was top-class stuff. I might rank it higher than his PL win, honestly.

Lets make this easier so that even an idiot like you can understand

Harrington - PDC major winner, played at the highest level
Nicholson - played at the highest level
Warriner, former top player played at the highest level

are you sensing a pattern yet ?

Pyke had a history in broadcasting, as bad as he is. and Dawson worked with the pdc before being on tv.

Laura turner NEVER played at the highest levels
Laura Turner - never played for the money the other players played for
Laura turner has no experience of playing in a pdc world champs.

Her commentary skills are abysmal, and just because she is utter rubbish does not mean dawson and pyke are not crap either.
There is not a single reason she was hired other than the fact she is female.

For what it's worth, using Oddsportal's archive an accumulator of Durrant to win the 15 consecutive matches he had to in order to win his three Lakesides would have paid out at approximately 16/1. Every single player in the history of darts except for MVG or Taylor at their peak would have been odds against to do it.

I'm curious what people think makes a good commentator in darts. I believe that someone who never threw a dart in their life could do as good a job as any former player. All they'd have to do is do meticulous research on the players' careers, and have a basic understanding on their preferred doubles, proclivity to switch to treble 19 etc.

The game is so repetitive that having a former player to say what they'd do in that specific situation is pointless, because the answer is always "hit as many trebles and doubles as they can".

Being a good commentator has nothing to do with having played the sport you commentate on.
Use of language, knowledge of the sport, being able to fill less interesting parts with useful comments and most importantly knowing when to shut up and say nowt.

not if you are just commentating on the game

but when you decide to call your opinion expert analysis or give people who won actual trophies in the game "your advice" when you have won nothing of note, then it is utterly retarded.

enlighten me, how would a person who never played the game be in a position to dispense expert advice or feel they can give former world champions this expert advice ?

Shite.
Durrant in a bad place at the moment. His first 9 dart average for his 9 matches is under 91 and he has only averaged 86.36 overall, 9 points behind Rob Cross who has the 2nd worst average in the competition.

https://leaderboard.dartconnect.com/lea ... ll-all-all
His pathetic 86 comp average not good enough

now in the bdo that form could get you titles

Scott Waites won 2 titles with something similar

I don't agree with this either. For a sport like snooker, every frame is going to play out differently. An anorak like Phil Yates can tell you who won the 2007 Northern Ireland Trophy, but he can't offer any tactical insight over what shot to play in a tactical battle. You need an experienced former professional for that.
