Re: PDC Challenge Tour 2021
again you miss the point.
Its not about Williams cos he played bdo, I say the same for the Canadian Campbell as well who did even better in his field,, it dont matter a jot if they are ex pdc or ex bdo, the point is they were the best of a bad lot, someone had to win them cards, and because they won them do mean they are destined for the top.
I would be very suprised if either went on to make an form of impact, both have a huge advantage with slam and ally pally to start off, but dont expect much from them.

Like I said I ain't making any assumptions.
Let's wait and see.
You can't predict these things.

Re: PDC Challenge Tour 2021
Aye cos no one that had ever won the Challenge tour has ever gone on to achieve major success.

Re: PDC Challenge Tour 2021
OOM money resets to 0 when a player takes the new 2-year tour card, so the amount earned at the GSOD and WC are irrelevant unless the player does a Ratajski and earns enough to get a card by ranking.
Re: PDC Challenge Tour 2021
William's 89.51 CT average would put him at #100 on the Players Championships.
The current #100 average is 89.38 achieved by Darren Webster.

Re: PDC Challenge Tour 2021
If you look at what players have done from last years CT to this years tour you see a clear trend that averages do go up. Keane Barry (whose average is closest to Williams) threw a 89.41 in CT 2020 now his average is 92.52 on the main tour. Of the 14 players that picked up new tour cards and played in last years CT all but two have increased their average. But it shouldn’t be a surprise to add at least 2.5 points when on the tour.
Re: PDC Challenge Tour 2021
New tour card holders should get a bit of a bump in average because they're getting fewer darts at doubles. The Jolly Man wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 5:04 pmIf you look at what players have done from last years CT to this years tour you see a clear trend that averages do go up. Barry is 19, and expected to improve, so maybe not the best example.
Jim Williams is 37, not an age with expected improvement.
Mitchell might be a better comparison. 2020 CT 91.19, 2021 PC average 93.76, which is +2.57.
If Jim Williams could add 2.57, and throw 89.51 + 2.57 = 92.08, that would be 58th on the 2021 PC rankings.
That wouldn't be truly terrible, but not special and retaining his card could hang on WC play.
I don't think he'll retain his card. I think he's limited by the excessive movement in this throw, which causes him to disappear so often.

Re: PDC Challenge Tour 2021
You do realise Dennis Priestley started playing in the BDO in 1989 when he was 39?

Yes but we are discussing players who improved with age
Re: PDC Challenge Tour 2021
Indeed. Duzza was unable to match the Lakeside heights when destroying the PL field.

Re: PDC Challenge Tour 2021
If a darts player is 37, and has been playing darts for a significant number of years, I wouldn't expect any significant improvement from that point, and especially within the next year or two.
It's possible that something could click, but probably not.
In comparison, even though Keane Barry has been playing darts from a young age, and almost as long as Williams, I would still expect more improvement because of the recent change from junior to senior darts.
