Q-School Official Discussion DAY 3

Post by crispy1978 »

Current table. Only Kevin McDine of the 9-pointers (losers in the Tour Card qualification match) has picked up points in the other day.

What sort of points do we think will be enough to get inside the top 9 point scorers? 11? 12? 13? Based on that, you would think that Kevin McDine is *almost* qualified.

Wrote a MATLAB programm to simulate 100,000 QSchool OOM. Code is based on 301 players (like on Day 1), all equally strong. The average-OOM after day 2 looks like this, which matches pretty good)
11.8844
10.2261
9.4609
9.1309
9.0267
9.0033
8.9890
8.8162
7.6866
6.9035
Under above asumptions (no dropouts next day, equal players) the average OOM after Day 4 looks like this.
16.1217
13.9416
12.8583
12.1330
11.6030
11.1894
10.8308
10.4715
10.1033
9.7581

Think he still needs another 3 or 4 points to be safe.

It seems that Mason gave up. He's not in the draw.

No Wayne Atwood either.

I like the MATLAB simulation. A real high level of geekiness that appeals to me. Which number of points, after 4 events, gets you a card in 95% of cases? That seems like a decent target number of points to guarantee a Tour Card.

I think there's a bit of a flaw in the MATLAB that all the players are not equally strong! I think 12 or 13 might be the eventual number. 14 should be pretty safe.

Ryan Maher - Terry Temple 6-2

A lot of people on here were almost sure that Temple would get a tourcard, but If I'm right he only gained early round exits?

Sure, but it's the easiest assumption for programming. Due to diefferent strenght it should be a little more crowded at the top, you are right.
