To be a pedant its actually 19 years but 20 running of the event as of next week

Darryl Fitton was in the 1997 Matchplay a long time before he became a "name" in BDO darts....i'd like to see some clips of that match against Manley but i don't think first round matches will get a look in ....more concentrating on finals, shocks and 9 darters i think..

Hope we get some crowd shots of the early years. lets see how many tables and chairs were out there.

Also will be looking at the 'smoking' aspect. Unbelievable when you see old footage from the cinema and indoor sporting/music events with a cloud of smoke hanging half way between the ceiling and the crowd. Was the smoking ban introduced 20 years ago? Anyway I (25 years as a non smoker btw) am of the generation who would never had thought smoking would be banned in pubs, clubs and places like the Winter Gardens. You just accepted it. Got to be honest though; once you have 'tasted' the no smoking ban who would want to go back to it? fact: I wouldn't be going to Blackpool this year, with it being so packed, if folks smoking all around me.

Not bad of a prog, a bit repetitive telling you what is coming next. Put me in the mood or the matchplay anyway. Vintage clips the best. Harrington in the helicopter (there used to be a heli-pad at the end of the north pier. You could have a ride on a helicopter. Previously owned by Burt Reynolds if memory serves me right. Pad destroyed in a storm!!) was pure cheese on toast. Nice to see myself and Mrs Devo celebrating MvG's 9 darter.

You've got to tip your hat to Phil 'I swear I thought it was in governor' Taylor. Clip of the new guy on the block, Mardle, but who is still at the top!

Fri 27th July 2007, Semi-finals night in Blackpool. Me and 5 mates on the hoy and at the darts.

One lad (Gaz) has had a bit too much and forgets about the smoking ban.
Duly lights up a ciggy in the Winter Gardens. We spotted it after a few seconds and got him to stub it out but not before a glorious, tall plume of cig smoke floated up to the high ceiling of the ballroom on live TV.
Still have it on tape now!
