New online hate crime laws come into force

Postby Admin » Mon Aug 21, 2017 11:39 am

The Crown Prosecution Service have published new guidelines on hate crime and abuse online:

http://www.cps.gov.uk/victims_witnesses ... .html#a04/

"The term 'hate crime' can be used to describe a range of criminal behaviour where the perpetrator is motivated by hostility or demonstrates hostility towards the victim's disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or transgender identity. These aspects of a person's identity are known as 'protected characteristics'.

A hate crime can include verbal abuse, intimidation, threats, harassment, assault and bullying, as well as damage to property. The perpetrator can also be a friend, carer or acquaintance who exploits their relationship with the victim for financial gain or some other criminal purpose."

We have removed posts that have definately fallen under this category in the past, remember YOU are responsible for what you type. Just because some think they are anonymous on here does not mean that they cannot be traced and prosecuted.

Think before you type boys and girls and anyone spotting what they think may fall under this law report the offending post to help us remove it, this is the correct procedure and with everyone's help we can make sure this place adheres to the update in online abuse laws. It is mainly to deal with the abuse people get on Facebook and Twitter but I can think of a few darts sites that should be a bit worried right now.

It shouldnt take the cps to point out that anonymous cowards who abuse people like the disabled are vermin.

Saw it on GMB this morning on my way out the door to work.

Keegan Jakovlevs has been jailed for 12 months after using Facebook to call for all British muslims to be killed after the Manchester terror attack.

This comes after the Crown Prosecution Services issued new guidelines in July warning that online abuse and hate speech will be treated as seriously as offline offences.

As always with any new legislation, examples will be made. Hopefully the severity of those examples will influence the posting of others. However, I guess there will always be those idiots who think they are invisible to the authorities.

I bet no Muslims get jailed for celebrating the same thing on Facebook.

From 2015 though. Must have increased a lot since. Did you see the thing about the Indian imprisoned for sending a whatsapp message?

Have not seen that particular example.

On a wider note, think some of those keyboard warriors who are convinced their identities are untraceable are going to get a major surprise over the coming months.
