Very good news for wes (and those who like him!).

Not good for the event I guess.
I’d have thought it was good for the event to have a known player rather than an unknown Asian qualifier

Definitely interesting to have two recent 'Pexit' players.

How so. I guarantee Newton will play better than any Asian qualifier.

It's the pinnacle. Only right that the best available player takes the place of any withdrawl.

Good for Newton .a player virtually unable to win a match in the PDC for a year qualifying for Lakeside despite missing 3 months of the qualufying year !..

If he is there by the qualification criteria good luck to him.
Whoever it is deserves it.

Confirmation on the BDO website that Newton is in:

WESLEY NEWTON will take part in the 2019 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships due to the confirmation that there will be no Asian qualifier this year.

The Asian qualifying tournament, which normally forms part of the Malaysian Open, did not feature in this year’s event, and subsequently the BDO have been informed there will be no representation from the Asian region in the 2019 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships.

Newton’s path to qualification has been far from straight-forward; escalated into the standby position after Andy Hamilton secured one of the four international play off places, Newton had a nerve-wracking wait throughout the Winmau World Masters before Adam Smith-Neale denied him a spot.

The omission of the Asian qualifier this year means Newton, as the next listed player on the BDO Invitation table, will take his place in the 2019 Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships line-up.

Obviously a cock-up with the Asian qualifier. Hope they get it sorted next year.

I blame the players representative director that was around for most of last season for not making sure the Asian players weren’t protected.

So 3 faded PDC TV Players & Jim Wedmeyer all made it this year ? and Paula Jackchin in the top 14 of women's players in the world ?

This has to be the strongest Amateur World Championships Fields for both sexes since their inception in 94 & 2001 respectively.
