If the money has not been paid before the start of the comp then those individuals will not be eligible for the cash prizes. Pretty simple really.

As for getting grief I think my shoulders are broad enough to take it if I have made any errors (which I would think is not the case).

Maybe now that Unicorn are not sponsoring the competition anymore, Ed should chuck his tenner into the ring and have a go at the contest.
Beware though if you pick a Unicorn player to get beat be ready for some grief. ;)
