The 2001 event saw a return to form for Canada's John Part who reached the final after a dramatic last gasp semi-final victory over Rod Harrington. Unfortunately for Part he met a rampant Phil Taylor in the final and was only able to win 3 legs during the match. Taylor averaged over 107 in the final and clocked up his 7th title in a row.
The event also saw the first woman to be invited to play with Canada's Gayl King lining up alongside the men where she won the first set against Graeme Stoddart before going down 3 sets to 1.
"Diamond" Dave Askew also put his mark on the tournament with a run to the semi-final including a leg where he missed a 9 dart finish and an accompanying £100,000 with his final dart.
