New Health And Safety Darts Rules

Post by Lankyphill »

1. Before play commences each player shall provide a certificate confirming their physical and mental fitness to take part.

2.  Anyone with sight impediments shall be subject to additional tests to ensure they can see the board before playing.

3.  Any loud queries such as “is ee there?” must be taken as a sign of the above and further tests will be required.

4.  All dogs (especially Jack Russell’s) should be excluded from the playing zone to prevent them assisting the players.

5.                  The use of flat caps by opposing players is strictly forbidden as it lulls the opponent into a false sense of security.

6.                  All raised Oches should be removed unless a Trip hazard sign is in place. Or raised oches removed and a nonslip chalk line marked on the floor. No tape, as again this is a serious trip hazard.

7.                  All dartboards on raised stages should have steps leading up to the stage with safety handrails and all stages should have a safety rail around the stage one metre high with a safety gate fixed  leading to the steps.

8.                  All callers and markers must wear Safety Goggles, Hard hats, Gloves, Steel toecap shoes and full body armour to avoid any injury to themselves from flying darts.

9.                  If safety wear is not available then caller and marker must stand no closer than 6 metres to avoid flying darts. The caller will be allowed binoculars and the marker long chalk. Left handed markers can only mark on left handed score boards same as right handed can only mark on right handed score boards. This is so no marker turns their back to any dart player. The dart player can only throw their darts as and when the caller says it is safe to do so.

10 , Any dropped darts must be picked up with a long handle grab, Or the dart player must bend his knees and keep his back straight. No one but the dart player will be allowed to pick up his/her darts to avoid injury from the sharp points.

11, Only the player throwing his/her darts will be allowed within 3 metres of the dart board all other persons must stand the stated safe distance from the dart player.

12.              Before any cheering or shouting the captain of each team must tell all members of both teams that they are going to cheer etc. This will allow all members to put on ear defenders or plugs to avoid ear damage.

13.              All drinks will in future be served in plastic cups to avoid broken glasses and people  cutting  themselves also the washing up. All food to be tested to make sure it is not too hot or cold so no one can burn or freeze their lips, mouth etc.

14.              All lighting for dartboards will have to be replaced to conform to the latest fire and electric regulation. They will also have to be shatter proof, as some of our dart players do not have a good sense of direction.

15.              Dart points must be dulled to avoid pricking anyone and all darts must be carried in a safety case until they are required at the dartboard, then and only then can they be removed from the case. After each throw darts must be returned to the case.

16.                If we find that some of these rules cannot be carried out then  we will have to resort to sticky or magnetic darts again safety rules will apply with these.
