2012 Grand Slam of Darts

Post by xtreme rebel »

Alot of talk already about players (Hankey, Barney etc) not being qualified for 2012. Well, based on 2011 qualifying criteria, here's the 2012 qualifiers.

1. Scott Waites
2. James Wade
3. Steve Beaton
4. Wayne Jones
5. Adrian Lewis
6. Mark Webster
7. Gary Anderson
8. Terry Jenkins
9. John Part (PDC world champion in the past 5 years (2008))
10. Phil Taylor
11. Wes Newton
12. Paul Nicholson
13. Brendan Dolan
14. Michael van Gerwen or James Hubbard
15. Dean Winstanley
16. Jan Dekker
17. Martin Phillips
18. Ted Hankey (PDC world champion in the past 5 years (2009))
19. Mark Walsh

13 spaces left to fill between all the PDC majors and the Lakeside. Semi-finals of both World Championships coming up make it.

There could be a chance that the PDC does with the World Cup of Darts what they are doing for the World Youth Championship (granting a spot to the winners from the previous edition and to both finalists of this year's edition) OR they put in all the winners and runners up for two years just like all the major PDC events.

In either case, that would mean Raymond van Barneveld and Co Stompe would get in from winning the 2010 World Cup, and if it is the latter, Barrie Bates would get in again as part of the 2010 runner-up team.

How could it not? It's based on the exact same qualifying events, just with the oldest ones removed. There aren't going to be any new names on such a list at the moment, just fewer.

Surely they will invite the winners of the last two PDC World Cups?

Blimey - You ok?

Your giving Barney a chance to be in a TV Tournament he doesnt deserve to be in!

I don't make the decisions, love - but that's how they will do it.

That, or he'll be the highest ranked unqualified player in PDC OoM. That's if they have a spot available for that position.

Tony O'shea not qualified either. This week could be his only chance to make it.

You can add Jennings or Harms to that list - winner makes the slam.

If it's PDC world champs of past 5 years, Barney's in anyway or am I wrong?

Nope, his victory was in 2007, this year's 5-year window will be the 2008-2012 championships if they don't change the criteria again.

I see, so it's not the 5 years prior to the 2012 world champs, but prior to the 2012 GSoD.

In that case Co and Ray should be included as world champs pairs. But I think they should also reintroduce the Masters finalist rule and invite the Zuiderduin champion or in the case of Waites, his losing opponent.
