What about wildcard qualifying events for things like the GSOD?

A fan or not?
Not, if the prize was partially funded by the BDO i would be ok with it but as it is it's taking money from PDC players, i said this the other day, best comp on tv.

At least they have to win a few matches in a qualifying event, rather than being parachuted straight into an event because they are a "name". Hello, Messers Fordham, O'Shea and Hankey! :WWWW:

Saying that, 8 spots for the PDC qualifying event at the GSoD was far far too many last time out.
They had to do that because the usual few faces won all the qualifying events.

I thought it was fine and good to see some different mushes on the box.

Well not quite, it was the plan all year to have 8 qualifiers from an event. If more than 16 qualified from the list of events then it was tough titties, only the 16 at the top of the event priority list got in.

Yeah, but it was so polarised at the top end they had to crowbar in Protour and Euro winners to get up to 16 otherwise they'd have been about 11 automatic qualifiers.

Fair point. Other than inviting top names from the OoM already in, not much else they can do.

Agreed. I'd rather see the odd new face get battered than VvdV and Pipe rocking up and being adequate.

The BDO qualifiers can't be as bad next time around either.

It's still a backdoor into many events they wouldn't normally qualify for historically.
I suppose the precedent has now been set by taking away 8 guaranteed extra Euro players from the European Championships, so yes maybe it's now time time to get rid of the Irish spots as well on the same basis.
That move on the Euro championships was rubbish. Now all we get to see is the same British players instead of a fresh field as most of the old guns are British and most of the young talents are not. The Euro Tour events would be better also if they included 16 British and 12 European qualifier instead of 20 British and 8 European.

Grand Slam qualifying by the way is one of the worst things in the PDC tournament system right now. Players like Wayne Jones, Clayton, Boulton all played at last years' GSoD just like that two Dutch Oosterhuis and vd Horst from the BDO. This degrades the tournament big time.

i agree i think the euro quaffing should be changed top 28 from 10 euro tour events then 4 next best European players not already in over the 10 events to mix up the field a bit

Yeah in 2015 there were 14 European players, but in 2016 there are only 9 European players in as it stands now.

Vincent looking a bit unlucky at the moment as it stands, just sat outside both qualification doors (main and ProTour OOMs).

I think the criteria is fine. It just happens to be that those who have qualified through whatever means are from different countries - two Aussies likely to be in the field as well, which is worth remembering.

UK based Aussies so doesn't really apply in this particular discussion.

British players have big advantages in the qualifying system of the Euro Tour events, which makes up the most of the Pro Tour OOM. Also they have less issues with travelling and entrying events. This was a tournament when players from other countries could show how good they are, and some names, who aren't regular on TV, could get in. The new qualifying system destroys this.
