Ryder cup of darts
Ryder cup of darts
When watching the Ryder cup I was thinking could they not do that in darts but have it England vs Europe or Europe vs rest of the world

Re: Ryder cup of darts
Personally think the GSOD will run its course this year with the demise of the BDO and the position that the BDO find themselves in of sending players who have effectively failed in the PDC. Think a Ryder Cup style event could be a replacement however as the GSOD is ranked would prefer to see it replaced or tweaked to remain ranked.
Re: Ryder cup of darts
Are bdo players not allowed to play in GSOD now and I just think a Ryder cup type event would be interesting

People have been saying “this is the last year of BDO players” at the slam since 2008

Re: Ryder cup of darts
I've always thought something like that could work in a one-day shootout with players from around the world. One giant tournament, best-of-3 matches, single knockout, blind draw, open entry. And yes, I know it sounds like the News of the World but it could be fun to see something like that come back again.phil davies wrote:A Britain (and Ireland) v rest of world event could be cool if done right. First priorty for the PDC in terms on new TV tournement should be a snooker shootout type event. All 128 tour card holders. 1 leg matches could be fun.
Re: Ryder cup of darts
I think even if the BDO players disappear from the Grand Slam, the event itself should remain. They won't let one of their biggest ranked events disappear just to create a new one. I think maybe in a couple years it will be logical to reduce the number of BDO places maybe. Still it's a tournament for the event winners which is a great concept in itself and should be here to stay.
Not sure about a Ryder Cup style tournament personally. Sure it could be interesting but for me it would be just another exhibition, with pretty much the same players. I don't dislike the PL, World Series, World Cup or the Champions League because each of those serves a clear purpose, but adding more non-ranked events would be overkill definitely. Just look at how much people care about the Masters, which has decent prize money and length similar to some majors, still most people just completely forget about its existence after January.
The shootout type event, 128 card holders, either best of 1 or 3 legs is a brilliant idea though and I'm sure the public would love it. I don't know why they haven't done it already.

I don't think a Ryder Cup-style event would be overkill if you did it every second year. I agree that it would be overkill if it was held annually but if it was done similar to the golf version, it would stand out.
Take a look at the Continental Cup of Curling. That's the World Curling Federation's version of the Ryder Cup, done annually, and almost no one cares about it until it's on.

Britain & Ireland vs. Rest of the World would definitely work, hold it every other year in alternate venues. The atmosphere in Scotland and Germany would be fantastic, and as a non-ranking/non-monetary event would enable players to have more fun for me.
The Laver Cup tennis has had a good start and produces great games, the format would be essential to its success.

Re: Ryder cup of darts
Can’t see an England/GB v the rest of the world working at all.
the only way you could get a real ryder cup match would be PDC v BDO. I can’t see that happening either

Re: Ryder cup of darts

We'd have more chance of getting a sponsor and TV than them that's for sure.TheSandman wrote:Would sell more tickets for that than the BDO did for wdt.Moongoose McQueeen wrote:I have an idea for a REAL Ryder Cup of Darts.

I think a Europe v Americas team event could be a goer BUT it would have to involve cricket as well as standard 501 as they play that a lot over the pond.
